ITANAGAR, Aug 17: The Students United Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA) in a release has appealed Chief Minister, Pema Khandu not to succumb to the demand made by MARDC to create Mon Autonomous Region (MAR).
In a release, the students body has suggested not only community-based organizations (CBOs) but also to include political parties, regional development committees, and all stakeholders in the upcoming consultative meeting fixed on August 19.
"The committee seeking special status must know the fact that such constitutional rights or autonomous district councils (ADC) are granted only to the socio-political and socio-economic deprived areas of a state. And West Kameng and Tawang are much prosperous than many districts inhabited by the Tani clan," it said.
Students United Movement of Arunachal Pradesh also said that Arunachal Pradesh is a pure tribal-state already gifted with various constitutional safeguards that protect our traditions and culture, therefore, there is no need to grant special status to any particular community.
The union further urged student organizations including the public not to criticize or pass derogatory remark against each other’s community as all are Arunachalees.
