YINGKIONG, Feb 26: The bandh called by the students of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Jengging in Upper Siang district as protest against prolonged unavailability of teachers in various important subjects passed off peacefully today in the Block.
The bandh which saw the closure of markets and chakka jam received wide support from the Upper Siang unit of Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU), Women’s Welfare Society (WWS), Jengging Block and the people of the area. The students resorted to the bandh due to indefinite unavailability of subject teachers in various key subjects like Economics, Hindi, Political Science, History etc. at GHSS, Jengging. The students who have been academically suffering due to it have demanded immediate posting of the above subject teachers within a month. They have also stated that breaching the deadline will compel them to go for a second phase of bandh.
Meanwhile, EAC I/c Philip Jerang while assuring the people of the Block the matter will be looked into immediately, announced that an Enquiry Committee will also be formed and the grievances will be conveyed to the higher authorities for an early resolution. DIPRO
