PASIGHAT, Oct 2: In view of the strike called by the drivers and handymen of various oil tankers, gas trucks and other goods trucks at Likabali as a protest against the harassment caused to them in Arunachal Pradesh in the name of Covid and ILP checking, normal supply of goods and fuel has been adversely affected in various central districts such as East Siang, Siang, Upper Siang, West Siang, Lower Siang and Upper Subansiri.
“We are ready to let our fellow drivers and handymen go to various locations in Arunachal, but unless we get written assurance from the District Administrations regarding end of harassment, we won’t let the oil and other goods-loaded trucks to move towards the state,” President of the truck union from Likabali, Afroz Khan said. However, Khan informed they have received letters from East Siang and if assurances from other districts arrive, they are likely to release the trucks.
As per the striking truck drivers and handymen, they are being harassed at police check gates/welcome gates and Covid testing centre gates where fines are being imposed on them. When contacted, ADC Ruksin, Tajing Jonnom clarified on Thursday there is no such harassment at the Ruksin entry gate and he is unaware of fees collected in the name of RAT by the health department. “We have managed to let the supply of oil and goods move into Ruksin, but for Pasighat the supply is likely to commence on Saturday,” he said, adding that official representatives had attended the meeting with the truck union leaders at Likabali.

If the strike continues for more days the situation is likely to worsen in the state and taking advantage, some traders were found selling fuel at an exorbitant rate of Rs.150 per litre.
