Rono Hills, Apr 26: World Intellectual Property Day was celebrated today in Rajiv Gandhi University campus, jointly organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology(APSCST) and RGU.
Chief Secretary of the state Satya Gopal, IAS as chief guest highlighted the importance of Intellectual Property Rights and the need for a sound scouting mechanism for finding out the young inventors, pathfinders, pioneers and innovators of Arunachal Pradesh. He also highlighted the richness of the state’s biodiversity and urged upon to file Geographical Indicator (GI) tag of all the unique horticultural & agricultural products and unique designs of traditional costumes and handicrafts of the state.
RGU Vice Chancellor Professor Saket Kushwaha also stressed on a strong mechanism for promoting Intellectual Property Rights among the scholars and researchers of the state. The achievements and activities of the Patent Information Centre (PIC) under the aegis of APSCST was highlighted by its Director-cum-Member Secretary C. D. Mungyak who urged upon the faculties and students of RGU to come forward to file more patents/GIs in coming years.
RGU Registrar Dr. Tomo Riba, its Director, JQAC Professor A. Mitra, Organising Chairman Professor B. N. Das, HoD, Physics, Professor Sanjeev Kumar, Head, Science & Technology Division, Assam Science Technology & Environment Council, Dr. R. K. Barman, various patent attorneys, faculties, students and others were present.
