ITANAGAR, Nov 6: Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) organised a webinar on legal awareness on the topics of ‘Crime against Women’, ‘Victim Compensation Scheme’ and ‘Free Legal Aid’ here on Friday.
APSCW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi while expressing concern on the rapid rise of crime against women informed that a total of 4,05,861 cases were registered during 2019 in the country and in the state taking into account the records of 2019 and as of now, ICR has the highest number of cases followed by West Siang. Among these cases, domestic violence has the biggest share followed by assault, kidnapping/abduction and other cases.
APSCW Legal Adviser and Resource Person of the webinar Advocate Karmu Chotton spoke about dowry deaths and AP State Legal Services Authority Member Secretary Jaweplu Chai as a Resource Person encouraged the women folk to know their rights and remedies. While elaborating on the punishments for molestation, sexual harassment and human trafficking, she also informed about the free legal services and counselling facilities available for the victims. Resource Person Advocate Raknu Koniya briefed on the process and guidelines of Legal Service Clinics at national, state and district levels and explained the Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011 in detail.
APSCW Member Techi Hunmai and Member Secretary Mabi Taipodia Jini also spoke in the webinar.
