TEZU, Feb 14: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today attended the Golden Jubilee celebration of Tamladu festival here along with Minister of State (Independent) for Sports & Youth Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and a host of MLAs and dignitaries.
MLAs of Hayuliang Dasanglu Pul, Dambuk Gum Tayeng, Tezu Karikho Kri, Lekang-Jummum Ete, former Ministers Dr Mohesh and Khapriso Krong accompanied the Chief Minister.
The team was accorded a warm welcome on their arrival at the festival ground where they visited the farm produce exhibited by the local farmer producer organisation and the exhibition stalls showcasing local artefacts, textile designs, weaponry, ornaments etc. The festival flag was unfurled by Khandu followed by Tamladu anthem. Earlier he offered prayers to the Almighty Amik Matai - Ringya Jawmalu and made offerings and visited the traditional Mishmi hut that displayed the interior setup.
Urging the Mishmi community for preservation of its rich culture and heritage which are also great tourist attractions, CM encouraged them to speak in their own native local dialects and urged for their preservation. He also promised that state government would provide its best support for preservation of local dialects and advised the Mishmi community to make use of its vast land resources stretching from the flood plains near Assam border to the alpine forests in high altitude areas near India-Tibet border. On the occasion Chief Minister inaugurated the free skill training for electricians and solar technicians sponsored by The Art of Living, Schneider Electric and GoAP. The new Sunpura SBI branch, Clock tower in Tezu and the Tezu welcome gate were also inaugurated by him.
Earlier speaking on the occasion, Mein said that state government is providing every possible support for protection, preservation and promotion of indigenous tribal cultures and he had been personally advocating for the preservation of the traditional systems and rituals and their documentation in digital form. To initiate this, we have provided some fund to the research department last year to make documentation of the traditional healing system of Idu-Mishmi, he added.
