NAHARLAGUN, May 18: Pursuing the red alert issued by the Controller of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs during lockdown 2.0, Legal Metrology Officers are continuing surprise inspections in the state’s districts/sub-divisions with emphasis on business places.
Market areas have been brought under scanner to ensure that traders are selling commodities within MRPs or the rates fixed by the District Administrations and as per reports received from LMOs, 11 traders have been booked on Monday for violation of Legal Metrology Act, 2009. The team consisting of Zonal Deputy Controller Minte Siga and Assistant Controller C.S. Singpho conducted surprise inspection in Tezu market and booked 3 traders for selling packaged commodities without mandatory declaration as required under Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011. The Legal Metrology team led by Inspector Namsai district M. Munglang has booked 3 traders for similar offence at Namsai market. The Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs Department of West Kameng district led by Tasso Guro also booked 5 traders from Rupa market after it was found that packaged commodities without mandatory declaration are being sold.
Meanwhile, on receipt of public complaints of overcharging on bakery products in Capital Complex, a special team comprising Papum Pare District Assistant Controller Amrit Taba and LM Inspector Debia Tana in presence of the Office Secretary of Consumer Rights Organization, Tilling Tallo inspected the bakery factories located at Nirjuli area and no irregularities were observed. “The public complaints which alleged selling of bakery products like breads, biscuits etc. at exorbitant prices could not be substantiated with our findings,” he added.
He however cautioned the bakery owners not to market any of their products without the mandatory information on the labels of these items.  LM & CA PR
