ITANAGAR, Dec 9: Toko Welfare Association (TWA) on Thursday appealed to Home Minister Bamang Felix to setup an interstate monitoring team comprising of IGP level officers to investigate the double murder case of siblings Toko Riyam (24) and Toko Ratam (19) sons of one Toko Runnel.
General Secretary Toko Tatung while addressing a press conference informed that the association in a representation has appealed to the Home Minister to monitor the heinous crime on priority at the highest level with its Assam counterpart to ensure the arrest of all suspects and exemplary punishment be given as per law, as the incident occurred in the boundary area of neighbouring state of Assam.
Tatung while narrating the incident said that the two brothers had gone to attend a fair in Harmutty, Assam on the fateful evening and went missing. The following morning, a case of missing persons was lodged at Nirjuli police station.
Later, the same day, their bodies were found near Harmutty Railway Bridge and their car was found abandoned near Vaisnavpur village in Harmutty, Assam which is accessible through Gumto, Doimukh, he added.
Accordingly, a case of murder was registered at Laluk police station, under the jurisdiction of Superintendent of Police (SP) Lakhimpur, Assam, said Tatung, adding that a prime suspect has been arrested in the case and rest are still absconding. The police department of both the states under the leadership of SP ICR, SP Papum Pare and SP Lakhimpur have been extremely professional and exemplary working in the case.
As a show of solidarity, the association has decided to carry out a candlelight procession on 15 December from RGU Tinali to the bereaved family's house in Nirjuli.
