ITANAGAR, Oct 9: A unique life skills programme for kids named “The Birds and Bees Talk” (BBT) which is an effort of Reckitt Benckiser (RB), the makers of Dettol was launched in Arunachal Pradesh today by Chief Minister Pema Khandu followed by signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the purpose between the company and the state government.
The programme which is a part of the company’s ‘Banega Swasth India’ campaign incorporates a comprehensive growing-life skills curriculum intended for children between the age of 10-19 and will provide an accurate, fact-based and age-appropriate information that will help them in making informed choices. Launching the programme, the Chief Minister said: “We are proud to introduce the one of its kind, life skill training module for the adolescent children of the state in partnership with RB.” The programme will be implemented across the state in government and recognized private schools to ensure a maximum outreach among beneficiaries. Commenting on the partnership initiative, Director, External Affairs and Partnership, Reckitt Benckiser Health AMESA Ravi Bhatnagar said the company is feeling honoured to embark on this mission in the state. “Through this curriculum, we aim at creating awareness on the importance of life skills so that every adolescent in Arunachal grows up in a protected environment,” he said.To address the issue, a group of organizations led by Primus Partners, the official partner in the endeavour have designed a comprehensive curriculum aimed at improving knowledge, awareness and behaviour among children in alignment with the National Curriculum Framework and the recently announced New Education Policy 2020.
Under this curriculum, teachers from the enrolled schools will be appointed and equipped with full programme essentials including teaching methods and lessons and necessary training will begin shortly. Focus will be on imparting knowledge in an engaging and interactive way to help students understand the physical and emotional changes taking place in their adolescent years. In the Northeast, the BBT aims to reach out to two million children.
