Hollongi, Oct 9: The 2nd and final rehabilitation and resettlement instalment was released by the state government to the R & R Chakma Committee on Friday here at the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) village.
The cheque which covers the due 30% of the agreed rehabilitation and resettlement amount was handed over by Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare Pige Ligu in presence of ADC Balijan Tasso Gambo, EAC Balijan, DLRSO, PRO Airport Project and other officials. Releasing the instalment, DC advised the Chakma R & R Committee members to utilise the fund in a judicious manner for further development of the village and asked them to mobilise the villagers for complete shifting within a week from the date of receipt of the instalment. The DC while assuring the committee members regarding District Administration’s all-possible assistance, also directed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) authorities to start the jungle cleaning and levelling works immediately with the help of ADC Balijan, R & R Chakma Committee and PRO of the Hollongi airport project.
The total area for construction of the Greenfield airport is 667 acres and the same was handed over to the AAI on February 5, 2019. A total of 156 families had been identified for resettlement and rehabilitation and 30 families had been covered under the ‘land for land’ scheme. As per government’s direction to the Deputy Commissioner-Cum-Administrator (R&R) Project, the entire project amount was to be released into two instalments i.e. the first covering 70% and the 2nd and final covering the remaining 30%.
Accordingly, the final instalment was delivered today after completion of construction works at R & R village. DIPRO
