ITANAGAR, May 12: The untimely demise of President, Galo Welfare Society (GWS) Dr. Minge Loyi has been widely mourned by various sections of Arunachalee society as condolence messages continue pouring in.
Loyi, who was on life support following a cardiac arrest died on Saturday while being taken to his native place, Aalo. Born on December 3, 1969 at Pakam village under Aalo administrative circle in West Siang district, late Dr. Loyi did his education from Government Secondary School Aalo and graduated from Assam Veterinary College, Khanapara, Guwahati in 1991 and joined as Veterinary Officer (VO) under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Diary Development on August 30, 1991. He was promoted to the post of District Veterinary Officer (DVO) in 2008 and was serving as DVO, Yupia, Papum Pare district from 2013 till the date of his demise. Dr. Loyi was known for his sincerity, dedication, administrative competence and technical acumen in his profession of animal healthcare.
In the social front, he has been a social worker since his student days, serving as the Vice President of the Galo Welfare Society (GWS) - the apex body of the Galo community from 2013-2016 and as the General Secretary, GWS, 2016-2019 and eventually, entrusted the highest responsibility of the community as the President of GWS on January 21, 2019 for the term 2019-2022 which he was holding till his demise.
By virtue of his top order social responsibility as the General Secretary and President in the apex body of the Galo community, he has been the ex-officio member of the Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Tribes’ Forum (AITF) - the conglomeration of the apex body of the Indigenous Tribes of the state. As such, he represented the AITF in the 2nd General Conference of the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) at Shillong on April 30, 2019 where he fell ill.
The conference where he participated, adopted eight vital resolutions in the broader interests of the serious demographic threat to the entire North Eastern Areas proposed in the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016.
Terming it one of the saddest moment in the history of Galo Gumin, the Karko Ao Welfare Association said it has lost a great personality who contributed to the cause of the Galo society. His efforts in the creation of Leparada and Lower Siang districts and Galo unification will always be remembered, it said.
Nyishi Elite Society, in their condolence message has prayed the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and also to bestow strength and solace to the bereaved family at this hour of crisis.
Tanw Supun Dukun, an apex council of the Apatanis has expressed shock and mourned the untimely and unfortunate demise of Dr. Loyi. His death has created a great vacuum which cannot be filled up by anyone and society has lost a great philanthropist and social worker who selflessly contributed for social upliftment and communal harmony, read TSD’s condolence message.
The rank and file of the Galo Peoples' Front (GPF) has deeply mourned the sad demise of Dr. Minge Loyi, and termed it as too premature and tragic. As a disciplined, straightforward soul and a true Galo, late Loyi was a champion for the Galo cause and never succumbed under any political pressure or never swayed for any personal benefit and was instrumental in conceptualising and identifying the location for the 'Galo Heritage Centre' at Barum, GPF said. Praying for the eternal peace for the departed soul and strength for bereaved family, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect by the GPF members.
The members of Kargu Kardi Welfare Society (KKWS) also mourned and prayed to Almighty Donyi-Polo to bestow eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family. As a mark of respect for the departed soul, the KKWS members observed a two-minute silence.
The Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) conveying its deep condolences also appealed the state government particularly the Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development Department to render immediate relief services including providing a compassionate appointment in government job to a family member of Dr. Loyi.
All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has also condoled the untimely demise of the Galo Welfare Society President. In his untimely demise, we have lost not just a fine gentlemen but a selfless social leader of our state, the condolence message read.
Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress has also mourned the untimely demise of philantrophist Late Dr. Loyi. The State has lost an able son who always volunteered for social works and kept on spreading the message of brotherhood within the different communities of the state. The state and APYC will always remember his contribution towards the state and the society.
