ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Arunachal NGO and Entrepreneurship Forum (ANGOEF) is all set to organize its 2nd State Level Exhibition from March 1-7 at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall.
Embodying a theme "be local and expand globally", the exhibition is being organized to provide artisans, weavers, etc a common platform to showcase their products and at the same time give them an opportunity to learn, share experience and interact with successful entrepreneurs. In addition, the exhibition will showcase a wide range of indigenously manufactured products by grassroots artisans and weavers with active participation from successful entrepreneurs from across the state.
Announcing this at a press conference today, Chairperson, ANGOEF Taba Yall Nabam said the programme is an effort of eminent civil society members, artisans and entrepreneurs to bring together all skilled workers in one platform and hear their despairs and enhance their means of livelihood and income generation. "Our main objective is to cast a spotlight on the utility of indigenous crafts etc for the urban consumer markets and highlight the potential of the local handloom, agri and textiles sector in boosting the economy as well as employment,”emphasized Nabam.
Taking the opportunity, she appealed to the state government to set up an Entrepreneur Welfare Board to address the structural, financial, psychological, social and economic hurdles faced by artisans in the state.
"The NGO has been generating employment and helping skilled workers to showcase their skills for the past several years. This is a collective effort to preserve the cottage and handloom industry in the state," said In-charge media cell Alison Welly.
Inviting all small businesses and weavers to be a part of the celebration, Welly also informed that no fees would be charged to set up stalls and instead the organizers will give lodging, fooding and other logistic support to the participants coming from different districts.
Vice-chairperson of the NGO (Org) Techi Anna highlighted the hardships of artisans in making their livelihood due to increasing competition from machine-made products, marketing bottlenecks, infrastructural constraints and lack of entrepreneurial skills among them to grow their businesses.
"The week-long programme will feature interactive sessions between artisans and resources persons over various issues affecting the handloom sector," she added.
Chief Minister, Pema Khandu is expected to inaugurate the programme on March 1.
