ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The NABARD Arunachal Pradesh Regional Office organized a ‘State level bankers meet on Micro Finance- SHG’ here today. Around 38 participants from Banks, NGOs, SHPIs, participated in the meeting. Dr. Gyanendra Mani, GM-OIC presided over the meeting. V.Thirumalai, DGM welcomed all the participants and stressed the need of women empowerment and told that strengthening the SHG movement will empower women as 90 per cent of members of SHGs are women. He also spoke about skill development of members of SHGs through MEDP, LEDP etc.
GM, NABARD spoke about various initiatives taken by NABARD as well as Government of Arunachal Pradesh in recent past for women empowerment. He also highlighted that for the first time the state government has awarded two SHGs for their performance which is likely to encourage other groups to upscale their economic activities. He requested banks to extend credit to good working SHGs. He also requested NGOs to help SHGs to follow the basic principle of credit discipline.
AGM NABARD G. Karmakar, made a detailed power point presentation on Micro Finance and SHG Bank Linkage - present status and way forward in Arunachal Pradesh vis-à-vis micro finance scenario of all India level.
The meeting helped in bringing together all stakeholders involved in promotion of SHGs in the state, on one platform.
During the meeting, representatives from NGOs/SHPIs expressed their concerns over difficulties faced by the SHGs in availing bank loan from few bank branches. They also shared good experiences with other bank branches. Representatives from banks explained in detail about the documentary requirements required to be completed for availing bank loan. The meeting concluded with commitments from participants towards improving coordination among stakeholders and focused credit linkage in future. ES Newsdesk
