HOLLONGI, Aug 22: In view of state government’s decision of setting 2022 end as the latest deadline for completion of the Greenfield Airport project at Hollongi, Civil Aviation Minister Nakap Nalo along with MLA Doimukh Tana Hali Tara, DC Papum Pare Pige Ligu, SP Jimmy Chiram, officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and others on Saturday visited the project site to review the work progress.
Speaking to media, the Minister informed that state government has set the target to complete the project by 2022 and to make sure the deadline is not breached, all-possible support is being extended to the AAI. “Due to the lockdown and ongoing pandemic, work has been delayed for some months but the good thing is that it is resuming now,” he stated.
“Works like the four-lane approach road, water and electricity connection and boundary wall have already started and tender process and allocation of works for the terminal as well as runway which are under AAI have been completed. In the next couple of months we are expecting some development,” Nalo added.
Responding to a query on rehabilitation of project-affected people, the Minister informed that all the 156 project-affected families had been shifted to a new location and although there are some issues relating to water supply, solution is expected within a couple of days through installation of bore wells. When asked about local issues, the Doimukh MLA asserted that all the disputes have been cleared. “This is the dream project of the government and we will extend all-possible help to the government to complete it within the stipulated time frame,” he said.
The work for the project has been awarded to Ahmedabad-based Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon Private Limited through a tender process. Its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 9, 2019. As per the company’s work schedule, earthworks will be started from October 1, 2020 and will continue till May 16, 2022;  pavement works  from November 24, 2020 to July 18, 2022; works on Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) from January 20, 2021 to July 18, 2022; structure development from December 15, 2020 to May 16, 2022 and completion of the entire project from February 17, 2020 to November 24, 2022.
The team also visited the rehabilitation centre and interacted with the project-affected people to know their grievances.
