ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The Arunachal Pradesh government has assured to fulfill the two point demand of the Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITW) at the earliest during a joint meeting headed by Chief Secretary held today.
The traffic wardens have been on an indefinite strike since August 23 last and had also threatened to go on hunger strike. ITW has been demanding the state government to regularise the ITW under Home department and full-fledged introduction of ITW in Traffic cell, Itanagar.
Speaking to reporters, ITW Lomra Tapa said that a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar where various issues pertaining to the traffic wardens were discussed. Accordingly, CS assured the ITW to look into their demands.
The meeting was attended by CS, IGP Chukhu Apa, Home Commissioner, SP (ICR) Jimmy Chiram, DC Capital Talo Potom and other officials.
The CS had asked the ITWs to resume duties today but unless there is an official letter from the concerned department, the ITWs will not go to work, he said.
He also appealed to all the 158 ITWs not to go to work unless any official letter to resume work is being provided.
“We have temporarily suspended the dharna but will continue if the demands are not made in written format. The dharna may resume any time if the demands are not fulfilled in due time as per assurance by the state government,” he added.
Tapa also made it clear that the ITWs should be inducted under the Home Department stating that the traffic wardens since induction have been working under the same department.
He also appealed to the state government to provide minutes of the meeting and accordingly make it clear of the terms and condition of the assurance.
