ITANAGAR, Aug 4: Home Minister Bamang Felix flagged off the state’s first Anti Riot Control Vehicle (RCV) – Vajra in presence of DGP RP Upadhayaya and other officers here at Police Headquarters, Itanagar on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, Felix informed that the department has flagged- off five vehicles, of which two will be stationed in Itanagar, one each at Yupia, Pasighat and Bomdila.
"RCV is part of police modernization and the department has sought another 5 RCVs which is on the way. If needed more will be brought," he said.
Felix, further thanked chief minister Pema Khandu, finance minister Chowna Mein for allotting required budgetary support for modernization of the police department in the state.
“The modernization of equipment in the police department is not to counter the public but to send a message to the masses to maintain and abide by the law of the state,” he added.
Maintaining law & order is also the moral responsibility of the citizens, he said requesting people to support the police department and together create the most peaceful state in the country.
On the sidelines, when quizzed of the arrest of one NSCN (U) cadre, Wangchin Wangpan on Friday, Felix said investigation is on track and people will be informed as on more information is unearthed.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General of Police said "The Anti Riot Control Vehicle (RCV) – Vajra is equipped with all required facilities to control any riot-like situation."
The RCV is equipped with features like multi-tube shell launchers to lob tear gas shell, emergency light bar with PA system for communication, wire mesh protection on glasses as well as the capacity to carry commander with 12-armed police personnel, informed the DGP.
