ITANAGAR, Oct 31: Governor BD Mishra flagged off the “Run for Unity,” a 11 km mini marathon on the occasion of the ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ (National Unity Day) commemorating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel from Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun today.
Later, the Governor, First Lady Neelam Misra, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, State Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Dr. Mohesh Chai, Chief Secretary Satya Gopal gave away the prizes to the winners of the marathon at IG Park.
Mudang Omo of Lower Subansiri district was the winner in the men's section completing the race in 39.13 minutes while Taun Tako of Siang district and Karbu Kena of Upper Subansiri district came second and third respectively.
Yabang Tali of Siang district was the winner in the women's section completing the race in 43.25 minutes, whille Pomen Teppa and Kabi Doyum of Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy, Chimpu received the second and third prizes respectively. Seven consolation prizes each were also given in both sections on the occasion.
Senior officers were present on the occasion besides public.
In Tawang, Chief Minister Pema Khandu took part in ‘Run for Unity,’ which was organized by the district administration .
The event began with reading out the text of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge by the Chief Minister where more than 700 people took the pledge.
Chief Minister flagged off the race for ‘Women’ and ‘Veteran’ while taking part himself in the ‘Mens’ category.
The 5 km marathon race began from Tawang Monastery culminating at Tawang War Memorial.
At the memorial, Chief Minister gave away prizes to the winners of the Girls and the Boys category.
In the State Secretariat, Chief Secretary Satya Gopal administered the ‘Unity Pledge’ to all officers and staff of Civil Secretariat.
The pledge was undertaken to preserve unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread message among fellow countrymen.
In Aalo, Hundreds including Policemen, govt officials, public and youths took keen part in the Run for Unity organised by the district administration today. The marathon was flagged off from Aalo Club by West Siang Deputy Commissioner N. Wangjen. Floral tribute were also paid to the portrait of Sardar Vallabbhai Patel by DC, SP and host of officers and communal harmony and unity pledge was administered to all participants.
In Anini, the day was celebrated in the district headquarters. The programme started with run for unity (marathon race) where personnel from para military/ govt. officers/ officials and school children took part.
W. Khimhun, DC, administered the pledge of unity among the gathering which was followed by discussion on the life history of Patel and prize distribution to marathon race winners.
In Roing, the 'Run for Unity' was organised at General ground. DC Mitali Namchoom addressing the gathering said that our resolve should be to respect each other's differences and live in unity with the feeling of brotherhood amongst each other.
The DC administered the Rashtriya Ekta pledge and the marathon was flagged off by MLA Dambuk Gum Tayeng and MLA Roing Mutchu Mithi in the presence of Tapir Gao (BJP President), Deputy Commissioner Mitali Namchoom, SP SK Sain, heads of departments and students.
Khonsa: A mini marathon was conducted under the aegis of District Sports Authority in collaboration with district administration, Khonsa on the occasion.
While flagging off the run for peace, Tirap Deputy Commissioner PN Thungon highlighted about the importance of the day. Tirap Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Meena said that it’s only fair to remember Sardar Patel, who worked hard to make India a united nation.

Pangin: On the occasion, 5 km distance mini-marathon from Pangin Tinali to Kardong was organised by the Siang Police Department under the supervision of SP Siang, Kushal Pal Singh.
Addressing the participants, SP Siang spoke about the contribution of Patel in achieving the unification of our nation and the significance of celebrating the day. He urged everyone to inculcate and foster the spirit of unity and to strengthen and preserve the integrity of the nation as envisioned by our great leaders.
Tai Tatin secured 1st Place and Ganphai Gangsa and Lukbi Lombri second and third place respectively. In the female category, the winners were Yanam Taloh, Onimang Taloh and Nanam Siram.
A volleyball tournament including an essay competition was also conducted to mark the event.
Banderdewa: ‘Run for Unity’ was organized here at PTC Banderdewa which was flagged off by Principal, PTC, Surendra Choudhary.
The staffers of Police Training Centre, Banderdewa along with their family members enthusiastically took part.
In addition quiz and essay competition was also organized to mark the occasion. The winners were later given trophies and certificates.
A Manyu, Ct. N Poiham and Ct. B Bellai secured first, second & third position respectively.
ITANAGAR: The Capital Police today took out a procession and unity march on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (national Unity day) from Capital SP Office, Ganga Market to IG Park.
Addressing the police personnel, CRPF, IRBn and APPBn DIG (West) Isaac Pertin while remembering Sardar Patel said that the main motto of celebrating the day is to create unity and integrity and inculcate nationalism and patriotism while delivering services to the motherland.
Capital SP M Harsha Vardhan in his address said that, “the objective is our goal and we should be honest in our commitment in carrying our duty for the security of people and mother land. We will try our best in providing better security to the people of the capital city.”
1st APBn Commandant Bomge Kamduk and all senior ranking officers and other staff from all police stations from Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli, Banderdewa of Capital police participated in the march for unity.
