ITANAGAR, Nov 5: Joining the other BJP ruled states and political wings, the state BJP unit today came in support of Republic TV’s Editor-in-Chief, Arnab Goswami and condemned his arrest by the Mumbai police and termed the act as “murder of democracy."
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here today, state BJP spokesperson Dominic Tadar said the Shiv Sena has changed its strategy of murdering democracy after being misguided by the INC and NCP.
"The case against which Arnab was arrested is a closed case, and it was closed during the previous Maharashtra government when Shiv Sena itself was part of the government," Tadar said while adding that the same party who is leading the Maharashtra government now is reopening the case just to suppress the voice of free media.
BJP will always stand by the media fraternity and defend the fourth pillar of democracy. Goswami is a son of the soil from the North East and has been falsely implicated by the police at the behest of the Maharashtra government under chief minister Uddhav Thackeray which is “condemnable and intolerable," he said.
When asked why the state BJP never came out in such a manner for the state media fraternity, Tadar said "Full majority BJP was never in power in the state. Everyone knows which government was there in the past when the atrocities occurred against the media fraternity in Arunachal."
We will always stand by the media fraternity of the state for a free press, he asserted.
While responding to query whether Goswami has any links with the BJP, Tadar categorically denied the same.
"BJP is only condemning the manner in which a journalist has been arrested with the intent to suppress the voice of democracy," the BJP spokesperson said.
