ITANAGAR, Nov 25: The All Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Corruption Students’ Union (AAPACSU) today served three-month ultimatum to the state government reiterating its earlier demand for deletion of non-APST settlers names from the Panchayat electoral roll of Vijoynagar, Changlang.
Addressing a press conference at Press Club, Union's president, Tana Ganesh Tara said, the union has been demanding cancellation of rights extended to ex-Assam Rifles (non-APST) servicemen to partake in local Panchayati Raj system in Vijoynagar since 2017.
“Despite repeated memorandum, rallies and even hunger strike over the issue, the government has failed to address it. Panchayati Raj (PR) Minister Bamang Felix had also given us assurance to correct the fault but no tangible action has been initiated so far,” he added.
“If chief minister Pema Khandu and PR minister cannot resolve the issue then they should resign on moral grounds,” Tara said while informing that the Yobin students’ union are gearing up to pursue the issue at the local level which might create law and order situation in the area. Commenting on why AAPACSU is not taking the matter before the court of law, Tara said that they do not have the funding or resources to undertake legal initiatives. He, however, added that since the matter is a state subject, the state government can resolve it, if there is political will.
