Itanagar, Oct 24:  The recently concluded 48th edition of Indian Handicraft Gift Fair (IHGF)-Delhi Fair Autumn 2019 at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida has proved to be a commercially advantageous platform for the artisans of Arunachal Pradesh.
These artisans who showcased their products made out exclusively from ingredients available in the state had received good response from buyers inside the country and more importantly, had bagged exports orders.
Women entrepreneur from Oyan, Aitoki Doley who displayed her products like cushion covers, curtain, table runner, eri silk gale & silk shawls etc. in the fair had managed to get orders amounting to rupees eight lakh from both foreign as well as domestic buyers. Similarly, John Paleng from Koieng village of Siang district who showcased cane and bamboo products at the event received both inland and export orders. As a run-up to participation in the fair, a preparatory process was undertaken for these artisans through a 4-month Technical Training Programme at MG Community Skill Development & Training Centre Oyan, East Siang district which commenced from September 25 last. The programme had been initiated by Regional Director (NER) O/o Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Niralaxmi Palai where training is being imparted to 20 state artisans with 2 Master Trainers engaged in the process. Designer, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), Arunachal Pradesh, Onima Tayeng had provided the design support during the programme.  Minister Agriculture, Horticulture etc. Tage Taki visited the fair on October 16 and interacted with the Northeast artisans and encouraged them to develop products based on domestic as well as overseas markets.
It will be relevant to mention that keeping in view of the potentiality of marketing Northeast products in world markets, EPCH, besides promoting this fair has initiated a special programme to uplift the designs and had set up compliance desks with the support of O/o Development Commissioner Handicrafts in different NE states by appointing qualified designers to support the craft persons and entrepreneurs to modify their products as per demands of international markets. This edition of IHGF-Delhi Fair which concluded on October 20 last had the tagline- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle, an initiative to breathe life into junk and during the five days, over 3200 Indian handicrafts exporters from all across the country displayed selections of over 2000+ products and more than 300 trend-specific designs with 14 display segments of home, lifestyle, fashion, furniture and textiles spread out over an area of 1,97,000 sq. mtrs. The other highlights were knowledge seminars, fashion shows and theme pavilions from Northeast, Narsapur and Mana villages at Indo-China border, the first of its kind initiative.
EPCH, with support of O/o DC (Handicrafts) had earlier showcased the eco-friendly crafts of Northeast for export marketing opportunities during Maison & Objet in January at Paris and Hong Kong Houseware & Textiles Fair & Hong Kong Gifts and Premium Fair 2019 in April this year. Products from seven organizations were showcased in the above exhibitions with cane trays and bamboo items the major attractions. EPCH PR
