KOLORIANG, Mar 8: Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) today conducted an awareness programme on HIV/AIDS and substance abuse here at the headquarters of Kurung Kumey district for the students and teaching staff of Government Higher Secondary School, Koloriang.
Deputy Director (IEC), APSACS, Directorate of Health Services Tashor Pali as Resource Person while highlighting the routes of HIV transmission, its prevention and the myths and misconceptions surrounding it said unlike any other disease it does not have a definite cure or vaccine. He also explained how drug abuse causes impairment of an individual’s ability to function effectively resulting in social, physical and emotional harm and consequent social disturbances and law and order problems like theft, burglary, snatching of valuables, street crime and familial disharmony. Highlighting the role of a teacher in prevention and control of drug abuse, Pali stressed on the need for keeping the students engaged in school activities, sports and music.
Well-known social worker Chello Kayang, freelance journalist Tadu Gumbo and the school’s Vice Principal also spoke on the occasion.
