KHONSA, Dec 16: The Special Court (POCSO), Khonsa, today convicted a 62-year-old man for sexually assaulting a minor girl, aged 9 and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and payment of fine.
Unilye Chakma@Anil Kumar Chakma of Diyun committed the crime on 25 July 2020, when the victim had gone to a nearby shop to buy biscuit. The accused who was drunk forcefully dragged her into a nearby bamboo grove where he committed the crime. A passerby who witnessed the incident informed the matter to the mother of the victim.
An FIR was lodged immediately at Diyun Police Station. Inspector PK Kalita swiftly swung into action and apprehended the accused and on completion of investigation, the investigation officer submitted the charge sheet.
The Special Judge, Khonsa, H. Kashyap, has expeditiously completed the trial of the case and convicted Unilye Chakma@Anil Kumar Chakma U/S 06 of POCSO Act and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and payment of fine. The Court has referred the matter to District Legal Services Authority, Changlang, for providing adequate compensation for rehabilitation of the victim under Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme.
