ITANAGAR, Feb 18. The week-long 40th Capital Nyokum Yullo celebration commenced here today at Nyokum Lapang Ground, Itanagar.
Capital SP, Tumme Amo who was the chief guest, amidst a large gathering kicked off the Volleyball Tourney to mark the inauguration of the festival.  The festival is being organized by the 40th  Nyokum Yullo celebration Committee.
In his address, Amo said the festival reflects the beauty and richness of our culture and could help in creating a lifelong impression in the mindset of the coming generation about the significance and importance of age-old culture and tradition.
Briefing on the law and order situation including traffic problems in the state capital, Amo claimed that the crime rate in the state capital dropped considerably due to proactive policing strategies in the last few years.
Attributing the reduction in the crime rate to the sustained efforts of the police officers and public together, Amo said the dip in crime rate shows the department’s emphasis on community policing is working.Terming the decrease in crime rate as a really good sign for social development, Amo asked community members to be more attentive in their neighborhoods and keep the police informed. 

He also lauded the organizing committee for celebrating the festival in a splendid manner to showcase the rich age-old traditional and cultural values.
Social worker and entrepreneur,  Bengia Bado, and few members of the organizing committee spoke on the occasion. Traditional cultural songs and dance presentations were the main highlight of the first day of the celebration.  
Meanwhile, in men's category, Tacho Welfare society defeated Tai Niklo in the opening volley ball match played here today.  In women's category,Bamang Aie Atey defeated 7D Chimpu team.
