ZIRO, Jun 9: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, Waterways and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal joined the Yoga Utsav celebrated on the banks of the Swekhe Lake today. The Yog Utsav is a curtain raiser to the International Day of Yoga to be organised on June 21 next across the country. 
Addressing the participants cutting across all ages, Sonowal said "Yoga is a practice that brings joy, health and peace from within.  It deepens the connection between the inner consciousness and the external world."
Urging all to reap the benefits of yoga, he added that Yoga should be made a part of our lives. It is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body. Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness, relieves chronic stress patterns and relaxes the mind and the body, he added.
Sonowal also informed that the theme for the International Yoga Day 2022 viz “Yoga for Humanity” was carefully chosen after a lot of deliberation keeping in mind “how yoga benefitted the humanity during the Covid-19 pandemic.”
“This year’s event will also see the innovative 'Guardian Ring' programme which will witness participants from different countries. The Guardian Ring underlines “One Sun, One earth” concept and showcases the “unification power of Yoga”.  The event where 25crore people are expected to participate from across the world will be streamed live from Japan from 6am onwards and move towards the West.
With India celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, 75 iconic national sites will be chosen for mass demonstration of Yoga, he further informed.
Later the Union minister joined the other dignitaries in demonstration of various asanas.
Among others Er. Tage Taki, Minister Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, veterinary and Dairy Development, Er Taba Tedir, Minister Education, Cultural and Indigenous Affairs, Bikul Deka, Chairman, Assam Petrol Chemical Limited, Bamin Nime, DC ,HoDs, PRI members students from VKV Ziro and Ziro valley school participated in the Yoga Utsav.
