JAIPUR, Sep 15: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker P.D Sona on Thursday addressed an Indian Youth Parliament-a large assembly of students and youth from various universities and corporate sector in Jaipur. 
The event is being organised by the Media Foundation to mark the ‘UN-Democracy Day National Session’, from September 15-17.
The Foundation of Jaipur has been organising the the Indian Youth Parliament to inculcate social and political awareness in the youth.
The theme of this year’s conclave was- Strengthening Democratic Resilience in the face of future crisis.
Addressing the gathering, Sona urged the youths to emulate the great Swami Vivekananda, the Indian youth icon for his lifelong selfless service, the high ideals and his vision for the lndian nation.
He emphasised that as social human beings, it is everyone’s responsibility and effort to establish a peaceful, just and egalitarian polity. Public discourse should be decent and dignified, he said adding, mutual respect,tolerance and dialogue are essential prerequisite for a healthy functioning democracy. 
He further asked the young audience to have self-belief and confidence in their ability.
He cautioned that the our Constitutional rights and freedoms are not absolute.
Freedom of speech must be used with caution. Freedom of speech is more purposeful if coupled with responsibility. Awareness of our duties to the nation is as important as our rights, Sona stated.
Sona who attended as the Chief Guest of the inaugural day also felt that modern technology should be used for strengthening democratic resilience in our society, like the use of Information and Communication Technology. Parliament, Assemblies and their members are adopting IT for more efficient and effective discharge of their functions.
