Attending the Itanagar Solung Festival Celebration as a Chief Guest here today, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein called upon the people of the State to keep alive their rich cultures, language and literature. He said, “Protection of our culture, customs & language is our own responsibility and we can not expect some other persons to do it for us”.
He lauded Adi community as one of the most democratic and secular society, because of this democratic & secular set up, the Adi Society can adapt any community among their society, Mein said. He further said, “Festival is the mirror of the society and it is the occasion for spreading the message of brotherhood, unity and peace & happiness with one another. The Festival should also be the training ground for up-coming generations for learning the rituals, traditions and culture”.
Mein said that the Govt is doing every effort to help the indigenous people in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the State. He informed that in this direction, Govt had created the Department of Cultural Affairs last year and also kept fund provisions in this year’s budget for many projects such as Rs 1 Cr for research and documentation programme in partnership with RGU to capture tangible & intangible cultural heritage of the State, Rs 5 Cr for establishment of Digital Museum at Itanagar by Research Department and Rs 10 Cr for establishment of Heritage Village at Itanagar for showcasing the diverse cultures of the State.
Dr Ranuj Pegu, MLA from Dhemaji (Assam) attending the festival as the Guest of honour spoke on the common origin and age old cultural linkage & similarities between the Adi & Mishing Community in particular and the Tani Clan as a whole. He suggested that the rich cultural heritage of the State needs to be preserved through structural documentation. He suggested for an establishment of a Mythological Park or an Anthropological Park in Arunachal Pradesh for showcasing the diverse cultures of the State to the outside world.
On the occasion, Paramananda Chayengia, Chief Executive Councilor cum President, Mishing Baane Kebang as the Special Guest and Deputy Speaker, Er Tumke Bagra also spoke on the occasion.
Er Getom Borang, President of the Solung Festival Celebration Committee, Itanagar highlighted the mythology and origin of the Solung Festival.
Earlier, Chief Guest inaugurated the festival by performing a ritual called Taku-Tabat at the festival altar which was followed by Solung Anthem. Chief Guest also released the Annual Solung Souvenir – Digok Roli (Vol-XIII 2018) on the occasion.
Among others, State BJP President, Tapir Gao and MLA Dambuk, Gum Tayeng also attended the festival.
Mega Dance, Folk dances and Solung Yokyang (Tug-of-war) were other attractions of the festival today.
