Jorhat, Dec 11: The North-East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS), a grassroots development organization of Jorhat, Assam in collaboration with various women rights organisations observed the International Human Rights Day on December 10 which also marked the last day of the United Nations 16-day ‘Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign’ which started from November 25 last.     Observing the day, NEADS and its affiliated networks released a statement in the humanitarian context of the COVID-19 pandemic to draw attention of the governments, non-state actors, development stakeholders and the civil society to affirm COVID-19 response and recovery actions. Through the statement the Society  reaffirmed its commitment to end all forms of gender-based violence by ensuring effective and meaningful participation of women and girls in the related decision making, implementation and monitoring programmes. 
The endorsers of the joint statement comprising Sanmilita Nari Adhikar Suraksha Manch, Banchita Nari Manch, Nari Adhikar Suraksha Samittee and Kanaklata Mohila Samittee urged the local administration and government to emphases on protection of women, girls and the LGBTIQ community through proactive means.
