Namsai, Dec 5: A Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) on 'Bamboo Propagation and Management' funded by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change was inaugurated today here at the seminar hall of Arunachal University of Studies (AUS).
The inaugural programme was attended by AUS Vice Chancellor Professor O.P. Sharma, Director, Environment and Climate Change-cum-ENVIS Coordinator, DoEF, P D. Dohu Robin, Director of Science and Technology and Skill Development Programme Coordinator Dr. Rani Jha, officials from the Departments of Textile & Handicraft, Industries and others. The Env. & CC Director stressed on integration of line departments like Industries,
Agriculture, Horticulture, Textiles and Handicrafts and others for development of bamboo-based industries and welcomed the plan of AUS for engaging Resource Persons from Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat and other reputed institutes for imparting training to the students.
18 students/trainees have been enrolled for the skill development programme to be spread over 240 hours. It needs mentioning that Department of Environment and Forest, ENVIS Hub has identified AUS as a full partner in carrying out various projects, one of them being ‘Value Addition & Marketing of NTFPs-Bamboo Craft’ which commenced from October 14 last and will continue till December 23.
As a part of the inaugural ceremony, a counselling session for the trainees was also conducted.
