RUPA, Jan 17: A diagnostic camp cum free distribution of aids and appliances to the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) was held today here at the administrative sub-division by the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment and Tribal Affairs (SJETA) in collaboration with District Administration and ICDS West Kameng.
Encouraging the PwDs to come forward, MLA D.W Kharma appealed them to register for availing benefits which are free of cost and gave away hearing aids, wheel chairs, crutches, walkers/rollators and blind sticks during the occasion. Earlier, Director SJETA Yumlam Kaha dwelt at length on the schemes such as Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) and Unique Disability Identity (UDID) card. A total of 538 fresh applications have been registered online so far out of which 473 have been generated for disability certificates and UDID cards. PwDs would get 4% reservation in departmental jobs under the Rights of Persons with Disability Act 2016. During the camp, PwDs registered themselves to get UDID cards to avail benefits under various central/state government schemes.
UDID project is being implemented with the aim of creating a national database for PwDs and for issuance of a Unique Disability Identity Card to each such person. DIPRO
