ITANAGAR, Oct 5:  Following the directive of Ministry of Home, Government of India, the state government released six convicted prisoners from District Jail Jullang today. The prisoners were released commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in presence Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Service Authority (APSLSA)  Budi Habung , DIG, Prisons  Nabam Gungte , officers and staff of district jail.
The released prisoners—Rockey Pangia, Rintu Chongruju, Nabam Hake, Man  Bahadur Pradhan, Tamar Mibang and Mon Bahadur Dorjee were convicted for various  crimes  in different districts.
 Speaking on the occasion, DIG Nabam Gungte informed that more releases will be made in future as per the government’s indication. ‘This is the first phase and two more phases would be held most probably in January  next,’ added the DIG while appealing to the inmates to maintain discipline and adhere to rules of the jail.
‘More than dozen names were selected by the Prison authority for of which six have been approved by the Cabinet. Next time, we believe more inmates whose conduct are good will be released,’ stated the DIG Prisons.
While speaking on the infrastructure of the Jail, Gungte informed that government has earmarked more than Rs 40 crore for development of jail infrastructure like auditorium, dining hall and other basic facilities for the inmates.
Also appealing to the inmates to follow all the laid down norms of the jail for  reports in the concern department for remission, Member Secretary-APSLSA- Budi Habung informed that legal advice is being provided to inmates from time to time by APSLS through Legal Clinics.
 ‘We also look after the cases of various convicts who are already convicted by courts by are not satisfied with the judgment,’ informed Habung.
Extending gratitude to the government, one of the convicts Rintu Chongruju advised the inmates present on the occasion to follow the rules and maintain discipline within the jail. ‘I am very thankful to the authorities for releasing me before the completion of my sentence. Now, I can meet my family after two years,’ he added.
Meanwhile, officers and inmates paid floral tributes to the  portrait of Mahatma Gandhi.
