ITANAGAR, Dec 15: In connection with the Vijoynagar violence case, a total of 16 people were brought to Miao today on transit remand and produced before the magistrate.
Out of all the 16 arrestees, the court remanded 3 to a three-day police custody and a 14-day judicial custody to the rest. This was informed by DIG-Tirap, Changlang Longding (TCL) Kime Kaming on Tuesday. Kaming said out of the 18 suspects rounded up in connection with the case, two had to be allowed to go because one was ill and the other a juvenile. “Adequate forces consisting of IRBN, CRPF including the local police have been deployed to deal with any situation. The atmosphere is tense but under full control,” he informed, adding that he is closely monitoring the situation assisted by the concerned SP camping at Vijoynagar and reviewing the force requirement and transportation aspects along with guidance to the SIT team who arrived today from Miao to investigate the case.
“Miao SDPO Takir Zirdo along with 30 police personnel and a magistrate were immediately airlifted to the violence-hit spot soon after receiving the news. Before that I also asked SP Changlang and the SDPO to coordinate with EAC Miao to hold talks with the community leaders mostly stationing at Miao that day,” Kaming disclosed.
A rally proposed by the Yobin Students’ Union (YSU) was cancelled today after a meeting was convened by the Yobin Welfare Society (YWS).
Meanwhile, in a separate meeting convened on Monday by the YWS attended by society leaders, senior citizens, well-wishers, village youths and intellectuals; appeal was made to the state government to resolve the issue of participation of non-indigenous people in Panchayati Raj system in Vijoynagar at the earliest.
The house requested the Chief Minister, Home Minister, local MLA Kamlung Mossang and AAPSU President Hawa Bagang to help execute the points adopted as per the ‘Minutes’ of the meeting held on December 3 last. “The public demand for removal of non-indigenous people from the local self-government structure has reached its peak and we fear loss of precious human lives while trying to achieve the demand,” a resolution taken at the meeting stated.
The YWS has also requested the Minister for Food & Civil Supplies Kamlung Mossang to address its demand at the earliest by placing the grievances in the next cabinet meeting.
