Improving connectivity in Arunachal & NE a priority: Rajnath

PASIGHAT, Nov 17: The much awaited and necessitated 200-meter long RCC Sisseri Bridge which has been constructed to provide smooth connectivity between Siang & Dibang Valley and other districts of Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday last.
Singh dedicated the bridge to the nation constructed by Project Brahmank of BRO in presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, DCM Chowna Mein, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, DGBR Lt General Harpal Singh, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, DGP RP Upadhyaya and other dignitaries.  While stating that BRO has proved to be a major contributor in socio-economic development of remote border areas, Rajnath said that central government is committed to improve connectivity in Arunachal since the state and the entire Northeast has strategic importance for the country. He also informed that 50 crore has already been sanctioned by the Union Ministry for establishment and extension of railway network survey purposes and  Itanagar will be connected by air shortly. PM had directed all Union Ministers to visit Northeast four times a year to review the progress of developmental works under their respective ministries at ground level, Defence Minister said, adding that works on connectivity has accelerated during the  last five years.
CM in his brief speech while stating the importance of the bridge in connecting various districts of Eastern Arunachal and neighbouring Assam, spoke about central government’s priority to improve connectivity in the region and termed BRO as one of the major stakeholders in infrastructural development of Arunachal.  DGBR informed that bridge construction work was very challenging but had been completed timely on September 30 last with innovative technology. 
Economic importance
The bridge spanning river Sisseri on Pasighat-Bomjir Highway along NH 13 is a part of the Trans Arunachal Highway and comes as a huge relief for the people of the state as it will provide faster connectivity between Dibang and Siang Valley and other districts, cutting down travel time by 5 hours between Pasighat and Roing. It will provide further connectivity to Tinsukia and other towns of Assam via Dhola-Sadia Bridge and is expected to give a major boost to tourism and marketing of the famed Dambuk oranges and horticulture produces of the state.
