SIANG, Sep 28 : The Siang Indigenous Farmers Forum (SIFF) has once again voiced strong concerns over the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) and the ongoing Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities in the Siang region.
SIFF spokesperson Tagori Mize while speaking to the media,  reiterated its opposition to the project and questioned the deployment of security personnel in areas affected by the proposed project. SIFF members said the presence of security forces during project-related activities has added to concerns among local communities.
The forum also highlighted the difficulties allegedly being faced by individuals and communities opposing the project.
In another serious allegation, Spokesperson claimed that while he was at home, some individuals allegedly arrived carrying firearms with an intention to attack him. He further stated that an FIR had been registered in connection with the alleged incident. The allegations are subject to investigation and have not been independently verified.
The controversy surrounding SUMP and PFR activities has continued to create tension in parts of Siang and Upper Siang, with several project-affected villagers and organisations raising objections to survey and PFR-related activities.
Villagers have also reportedly opposed the movement of machinery towards proposed survey locations, with road blockades and other forms of protest being witnessed in the region,added Mize.
