AALO, Dec 9: One day Awareness cum Sensitization Programme on RTI for all Head of Offices, PIOs and APIOs of West Siang district was held by the State Information Commissioners here at DC office today.
Addressing the gathering, Gumjum Haider said that the Commission has been working actively since 2005 as a Statutory Body with an objective to promote transparency and accountability in working of every public authority and department officers should be able to furnish any information sought without avoiding it. The awareness and sensitization in all districts on RTI is felt essential to do away many of the confusions and growing cases where government officers are dragged in the Commission court wasting time, he said.
Haider dwelt elaborately on historical perspective of RTI, fundamental rights, Acts, obligations, powers of the Commission, jurisdiction of the court etc.
Sonam Yudron, State Information Commissioner reiterated that few departments are without PIOs and APIOs and it is mandatory for all departments for speedy disposal of all cases. The information sought should be disclosed and provided in a clear and legible manner under the law, she said. DIPRO
