Maksam Tayeng

PASIGHAT, Jul 9:

To take stock of the flood situation and its damages here at his home constituency, MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary for Disaster Management Kaling Moyong inspected the Siang river along Komlighat, 21 Mile, Sibo-Siang confluence, Siku river under Mebo and Tolon river near Pasighat today.

Moyong was accompanied by DyCommissioner Pasighat, Tamiyo Tatak, SP Pasighat, Pranav Tayal, DDMO Genden Tsumo, WRD EE, Er. TJamoh and host of officials and public leaders.

While visiting Komlighat along Sibo-Siang river confluence, Moyong took note of Siang river in spate which is flowing above danger level these days. He felt the need to increase the height of the flood control bund along Komlighat with special focus toward Sibo Korong (river) which if blocked by Siang river may get flow-back which will lead to major catastrophe in the PI line, Muriline, Jarku, Jarkong and entire Advance Landing Ground areas. DC, Pasighat T. Tatak said that, the same can be taken up under Smart city project plan while developing the entire stretch of the river bank into a tourist site.

Moyong and team also visited Siku bridge which is under constant threat from turbulent Siku river between Mebo and Ayeng village in Mebo Assembly constituency. However, he was happy to learn that, with the help of private firms like TK, Puna Hinda and others effort is being carried out to divert the river current toward middle of the bridge. While inspecting the Tolon river (also called Pagla Nadi) he felt the urgent need to complete the ongoing bridge over the river which is delaying the work progress. DC Tatak said that, he has also written to the concern firm and the executing agency PWD to complete the work on time.

Meanwhile, some families at Seram village under Mebo Sub-Division were evacuated to safer place as constant erosion is taking place due to the turbulent Siang River. It is worth adding here that, due to major flood in river Siang the entire Old Seram village including school was washed away and is posing a serious threat to other villages like Padan, Namsing, Gadum and Mer under same Sub-Division.
