PASIGHAT, May 19: To make a ground-level assessment of the completion of the mega flood control project along the left bank of Siang river under Mebo Sub-Division, East Siang DC Dr. Kinny Singh accompanied by 39th Mebo MLA Lombo Tayeng and a host of officials on Monday inspected the flood control sites at Sigar, Borguli and Seram villages.
ADC Hage Lailang, WRD Executive Engineer Tamo Jamoh, AE Geyon Tayeng, PWD Executive Engineer Tani Taki, AE Johny Darang, Namsing Circle Officer Khoda Lasa and GBs of the said villages formed the team. After inspecting, DC expressing satisfaction over the timely completion of the project and appealed the locals not to venture out during coming monsoon in the river bank for hunting and fishing.
Assistant Engineer Tayeng informed that the project has been completed within scheduled time and out of Rs. 35 Cr, around Rs.30 Cr has been used for flood control works and remaining Rs. 5 Cr for rebuilding the infrastructures of Government Secondary School Borguli. Representing the villagers, Sigar Head GB Bangkal Apum expressed gratitude for coming up of the project in the flood-prone Siang river bank.
The team also inspected the five projects of micro filling fencing executed by the PWD on experimental basis at Borguli, Bakkul and Seram. EE PWD Taki informed that the fencing will retain the debris during flood which will divert the river flow and save the villages from getting submerged. 39th Mebo MLA who is also the Chairperson of East Siang District Development Committee said the project will save many downstream villages of his constituency from getting flooded.

The project was sanctioned by the Ministry of DoNER in 2019 for controlling the annual massive soil erosion and protecting the agricultural lands in Lower Mebo villages like Borguli, Seram, Kongkul, Namsing, Mer, Gadum, Raling, Motum, Kiyit and adjoining ones.
Around 1.5 km of tie-bund has been constructed at the north-west of Sigar village to divert the strong river current and similar smaller bed-bunds of 75 metres are erected at Borguli and Seram villages at the vulnerable locations prone to soil erosion.
