CHANGLANG, Sep 30: With the objective of curbing the usage of Single Use Plastic (SUP) in Changlang, District Administration organized a sensitisation drive for shopkeepers and vendors here at the township area.
CO Changlang Dr Rani Mibang informed that sensitisation drive for vendors and shopkeepers is being conducted as part of the Swacchta Hi Seva campaign which aims to make the country plastic free. Business communities need to be sensitised as they play a major role in curbing the use of SUP and encouraging consumers to use biodegradable bags instead, she added. UPO Changlang A Pertin spoke on Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 and informed that the Rule also covers rural areas and suggested for using biodegradable bags as an alternative. He urged all the shopkeepers to segregate the waste at the source which will be collected by the UD department and also requested all puja committees of the ensuing Durga Puja to segregate the waste product generated during puja. While informing about the penalties, he warned that unsegregated waste will not be collected and laid out penalty norms will be applicable.
DRCHO Dr J Ado asked the venders to keep food safety license valid along with trade license stating that heavy late fees have been introduced if food licenses are not renewed on time. EAC, Dr M N Taloh spoke on the norms and procedures to be followed before opening of new shops in a market area and asked them to keep the license updated. EE PHED Kipa Niama urged the shopkeepers to start curbing plastic from their own home and President, CTTCA N Dewin spoke on the harmful effects of SUP.
General Secretary, CTTCA S Jugli urged all to keep the township clean by making the cleanliness activities a daily routine. Newsdesk
