SEPPA, Apr 24: Minister for WRD, Environment & Forest, Mama Natung today assured that within one month Seppa Township will be provided clean potable water, on condition that the public has to spare space to lay pipelines from their locality without any hurdles.
A high-level team led by Natung including MLA Seppa- Tapuk Taku, MLA- Chayang Tajo Hayang Mangfi, Secretary PHED, Chief Engineer PHED, DC, SP and other concerned officers, as well as CBOs visited Kochi Water Supply project, Macha and Laibong Water Treatment Plant to see the ground reality today. The move comes after activist Sol Dodum marched at least 225km from Seppa to Itanagar demanding clean potable water for Seppa township.
Attending the public meeting at Nyedar Namlo-Seppa, Natung informed that, Kochi Water Supply Project in Boso Colony is an old plant constructed way back in the 1970’s. However, the department is already on its job to connect Seppa with the new WTP. "During the visit, we have noticed that due to the settlement of people at upside of the Kochi Water Supply project and a few landslides in the uphill areas are the major reasons for the supply of unclean water. However, the department is already working on the new WTP and work for laying of pipelines to connect localities and construction of Filtration and Pre-Sedimentation plant will be started soon," he added.
While responding to query on the allegation of mismanagement of funds meant for the WTP projects, Natung informed that Department is using the funds judiciously. Half of the funds meant for the project out of at least Rs. 30 crore has been used by the department for the basic formation of the project and the rest of the fund will be used for the laying of pipelines in the whole Seppa township. Indeed the main intake of WTP is at least 12km far from the town, asserted the Minister.
Further, he also condemns the attack on Sol Dodum by the miscreants and informed them that the Police are investigating the case.
Earlier, local MLA Tapuk Taku also appealed to the people to cooperate with the department in laying the pipelines. Now the department has already assured to complete the project within a month if the public allows them to lay the pipelines from their locality. So, it is also our responsibility to extend our help for the welfare of the Seppa, he stated.
Among others, Secretary PHED&WS Rinchin Tashi, Chef Engineer-PHED & WS Toko Jyoti, President ANSU Nabam Dodum, Vice President-NES, and others also spoke on the occasion.
