NEW DELHI, Apr 25: Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Manikant Thakur passed away this morning following COVID-19 infection. He was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi.
Thakur (58) was serving as Chief of Media in the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
He joined the Indian Information Service in 1991 and served in various departments of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting including Bureau of Outreach & Communication (erstwhile DAVP & DFP), News Services Division of All India Radio and DD News. He also played an important role in launching many regional channels of Doordarshan including DD Arunprabha in Arunachal Pradesh.
