DOIMUKH/RONO HILLS, Mar 6: The Department of English, Rajiv Gandhi University organized a two day national seminar from March 5-6 on the topic ‘Modernity and Indigeneity: Shifting Perspective in Culture, Literature and Language’.
There were 10 technical sessions where papers on different sub themes of the seminar were presented. A total of 65 papers were presented out of which 30 were from Universities outside of the state. The rest included papers from the students, scholars and faculties of various departments of RGU and addressed by Prof. Sara Hilaly and Prof. Vokendro Sing.
The technical session of the valedictory function held today ended with a highly engaging panel discussion on the topic: ‘Encountering Modernity and Indigeneity in North–East India: Culture, Literature and Language’. The Panelists included Dr. Jayanta Vishnu Das, Dr. Dhurjjati Sarma, Dr. Wanglit Monchan and Dr. Dhritiman Sarman.
Attending as chief guest Prof. Amitava Mitra, Pro Vice-Chancellor spoke on the importance of written script and developing bilingual dictionary. He also advocated for the use of mother tongue in primary level schooling. The session included feedback from various delegates applauding the success of the two-day National Seminar. The highlight of the event was the awarding of certificates to the paper presenters by the Pro Vice-Chancellor.
