KHONSA, Mar 7:  Day after the fierce encounter between 6th Assam Rifles and NSCN-IM cadres, security forces have recovered one HK Series Assault Rifle from the site of the gunfight after a detailed search along with one magazine and 40 rounds of ammunition.
Speaking to media, Superintendent of Police, Tirap, Kardak Riba informed that, the incident occurred at Kapu village on Monday evening. Acting on a tip-off, security forces stopped one vehicle laden with essential commodities and upon enquiry villagers revealed that, it was the demand of NSCN-IM to provide one lakh rupees from the road construction company and also demanded rations & pig for consumption from the poor villagers.
Later, security forces allowed the villagers to handover the items to the NSCN-IM cadres, so that they could intercept them. On reaching the spot, security forces cordoned off the area and took the villagers to a safe side.  On suspicion, NSCN-IM cadres fired upon the security forces and in retaliation, Assam Rifles also started firing. However, no casualties have been reported from the security forces end, but it is suspected that insurgents might have suffered injuries, added the SP.
 “Information has been received from sources that, few people have collected First Aid kits from the medicine store," said the SP.  
Meanwhile,  expressing its resistance against the NSCN -IM insurgent group, villagers including women and children of Kapu village came out in strength and unanimously voiced their protest against harassment of villagers and nefarious activities of the insurgents through a protest rally.
The villagers unanimously condemned the constant exploitation meted out to them by various factions of NSCN and waved placards to protest against the insurgent groups for their frequent acts of brutal terror and illegal extortion and harassment.
