Khonsa, Dec 17: In a significant boost to security and electoral integrity in Arunachal Pradesh, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles, in close coordination with Tirap Police, apprehended an armed cadre of the NSCN-IM faction during a targeted search operation in Tirap district on Sunday.
Acting on specific and credible intelligence inputs, the joint security team launched the operation and arrested SS Capt Chopsai Pansa (56), a resident of Village Chop under Wakka Circle in Longding district, at around 1:30 pm. Officials revealed that the apprehended cadre was allegedly involved in illegal extortion activities and attempts to disrupt the ongoing electoral process in the district.
Following established standard operating procedures, the individual was taken into custody for preliminary questioning and subsequently handed over to Tirap Police for further investigation and legal action.
Security officials emphasized that the successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of Assam Rifles and the state police to maintain peace, prevent insurgent interference, and ensure a secure environment for democratic processes in Tirap district and adjoining areas.
