ITANAGAR, Nov 28: In a first-of-its-kind citizens’ initiative in the state capital, H-Sector Welfare Society has voluntarily installed Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at all important locations of the Sector in an attempt to instill a sense of security among residents.
Addressing the inaugural programme organised today, Chief Guest Loma Changrang said the surveillance cameras have been installed to instill a sense of safety and security among residents. “Silent they might be, but the role played by CCTVs cannot be ignored,” he said, citing the rising cases of crimes, thefts, burglaries and snatchings in the capital. The members of the Welfare Society claimed this is the first time in the history of the ICR that CCTVs have been installed by the residents themselves to help the DA in controlling crimes. They expressed confidence the new surveillance mechanism will ensure better vigilance on movements of anti-social elements in the area and help reduce crimes.
According to the members, installation of CCTVs in the locality was planned long ago but couldn't be implemented due to financial crunch. They have collectively thanked the ex-councillor of the area who donated the CCTVs and monitors.
