ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on  October 2019 had announced that his government will set up a medical college at Pasighat but on the contrary in the recent assembly session  Health Minister Alo Libang in a written reply to the query of Congress MLA Lombo Tayeng  stated that as of now there is no proposal to create another medical college in the state.
 Responding to the query, whether there was any proposal for the establishment of medical colleges in other places in the recent past? Health Minister categorically stated that there is ‘No’ proposal as of now. However, a fresh proposal may be sent to the Govt. of India for the establishment of AllMS like Medical College at Pasighat, East Slang District.
While responding to a similar query by another Congress MLA Ninong Ering ‘Whether the proposal of AlIMS like Medical College had been prepared for Pasighat? Health Minister replied that ‘file is under process, letter is being drafted for Chief Minister, and Arunachal Pradesh to be sent to Union Minister (H&FW), Govt. of India, New Delhi for approval of Upgradation of BPGH Pasighat into 500 bed Multi-speciality Hospital.
 However, the Health Minister has confirmed that a second Medical College of the state will be established at Namsai. Responding to the query of MLA Lombo Tayeng,  Health Minister stated ‘The Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh has received communication from Govt.of India Vide DO No.U.14017/37/2020 & also DO No.U.14017/36/2020-ME Dated 03/12/2019 from Dr.Harsh Vardhan(the then Union Health Minister) Gol to expand the scheme of "Establishment of New Medical College attached with Existing District/Referral Hospitals"(Phase-IV) with an objective to establish new medical colleges attached with District/Referral Hospital with a minimum bed strength 100 in "Aspirational District".
In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner/DMO  Namsai stated that the process of land acquisition has been completed and also the concept note has been submitted to Dept.of Medical Education T&R, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh,Naharlagun. The process of upgradation of existing referral/district hospital at Namsai has been also  started and  the proposal for the establishment of New Medical College at Namsal under ‘Aspirational District’ will be sent to Govt.of India along with the Concept/DPR at the earliest, stated the reply.
