RONO HILLS, Mar 4: The Rajiv Gandhi University Research Scholars’ Forum (RGURSF) has demanded the university administration to release non-NET fellowship of research scholars, which have been pending since September 2021.
The RGURSF in a representation to the Registrar today said “more than hundred research scholars have not been paid their monthly fellowships for the last six months, since their admission onwards.”
Stating that it is gravely concerning, the research body said “the essential govt-aided non-NET fellowship is a lifeline for many scholars who are not dependent on research fellowships based on the NET, such as JRF, MANF, RGNF etc.”
The forum further said the infinite fellowship delay has hampered research interests of many scholars who are dependent on the incentive provided by the government.
RGURSF General Secretary Prem Taba said some of the scholars stay in rented accommodation outside the campus due to scarcity of hostel facilities and were facing the possibility of eviction as they have not been able to pay the rent.
''I appeal to the administration to disburse the pending fellowship at the earliest while devising a framework to release it on time, every month. This will allow scholars to focus on their primary task of research,'' Taba said.
