ZIRO, Jul 28: Saint Claret College, Ziro has received the prestigious ‘One District One Green Champion Award’ from Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Union Ministry of Education under Swachhta Action Plan 2020-21.
Chosen as the 'Green Champion' of Lower Subansiri district, for SCCZ it’s a recognition of its proactive commitment towards a cleaner environment manifested through various green initiatives. MGNCRE awards institutions across the country who are devoted in realisation of ‘Swachh Bharat’ goals through vigorous implementation of clean and hygienic environment initiatives. In Arunachal Pradesh, three institutions were selected for the award and Apex Professional University, Pasighat and Arunodaya University, Naharlagun are the other two recipients.
On behalf of Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri Somcha Lowang, Circle Officer Amina Nabam handed over the award to SCCZ authority on Tuesday. During the virtual ceremony, SCCZ highlighted its green initiatives viz. greenery on campus, rain water harvesting, energy management, observance of environment related days, waste disposal and annual cleanliness and sensitization  drives to propagate environmental consciousness. Officials from MGNCRE and District Administration appreciated the efforts made by the college in the award ceremony which also coincided with a workshop organised by MGNCRE on Swachhta Action Plan.
As a Resource person in the workshop Dr. Savita Mishra from MGNCRE, Hyderabad covered several pertinent issues and the parameters that determine the selection of awardees. Several faculty members and Heads of the higher educational institutions of the district were present at the event.
