PASIGHAT, Oct 2: After two days when the incident of killing of a Sambar deer first came to light, forest officials finally swung into action on Tuesday.
In connection with the incident, the Deputy Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), under Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Wildlife & Biodiversity cum Chief Wildlife Warden, directed the DFO Roing to conduct an enquiry vide a letter No. CWL/D/21 (92)/2011-12/Pt./1571 dated October 1, 2019. In the letter, DCF while pointing out the failure on the part of Range Forest Officer and the field staff of Dambuk Range in checking and controlling hunting, directed the official concern to furnish the Action Taken Report within 48 hours. The wildlife department has viewed the offence seriously and has directed the DFO Roing to identify the offenders and book them under relevant provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
DFO Roing, Aduk Paron couldn’t be reached for his official comment on the progress of the case which occurred under his jurisdiction. However, DCF Wildlife, Umesh Kumar said that officials of Roing Forest Division are on the job and expressed hope that offenders will be arrested soon. It is worth mentioning that two persons were caught on camera carrying a hunted Sambar deer on the back of a domesticated elephant near Bomjir Bridge, some 12 km from Roing on Saturday last and disappeared into the jungle from the highway while the photos were taken.
