ITANAGAR, Aug 27: The District Magistrate, ICR has banned the sale of air rifles/air guns or any bore size/muzzle energy and pellets of any size in the Arms shops under Itanagar Capital Region jurisdiction with immediate effect.
However, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs has been excluded from the purview of the order and permission has been given to use aerial rifles for sports purposes, for which specific permission has to be obtained from DM, Itanagar.
The ban was imposed after it was reported that air rifles and air guns (all categories) are being used for hunting small birds and animals/wildlife in the ICR area which is illegal and against the provision of the Protection of Wildlife Act.
“ The superintendent of police, Itanagar, all magistrate shall enforce strict implementation of this prohibitory order. Failure to with order shall invite prosecution under various sections of the Arms Act of 1959 and 2016,” the order stated.
