DIRANG, Apr 5: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dirang conducted its 10th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting today here at the ADC Conference Hall under chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jotam Toko Obi.
A host of measures intended for bringing benefits to the farmers of West Kameng district were discussed and proposed in the meeting by the SAC members. The ADC stressed on covering the entire district with the activities of KVK and suggested the concerned Subject Matter Specialists (SMSs) to conduct on-field practical sessions with the farmers. While placing the proposal to establish a cold storage in the district that would ensure supply of horti-agri produce during off season, he also suggested launching of awareness campaigns to break the social stigma attached with fish farming. Chairman, I/c Director, ICAR-NRC on Yak, Dirang Dr Vijay Paul suggested cultivation of soyabean instead of black gram and assured to extend necessary technical help to the farmers in this regard. He also suggested for preparation and dissemination of technologies on the basis of the district map. Horticulturist, RAN, Dirang N. Phaichulpa suggested introduction of need-based technology in collaboration with the line departments and assessment of impact regarding PHM technologies catered by the KVK. HDO, Dirang-cum-representative DHO Dorjee Letro suggested infusion of value-added technologies on Persimmon fruit crop. SVO Dr. Dargey Tsering stressed on ensuring proper marketing facilities of post-harvest value-added products. SMS, Home Science presented the technical achievements of 2020-21 and Action Plan for 2021-22. SMSs-Horticulture, Fisheries and Agronomy placed their respective reports and Action Plans for 2021-22.
Introduction of Blue Berry as a horticultural crop in the district, selection of suitable orchid species as an income generation tool, launch of OFT and FLD for apple, maintenance of an accurate database for introduction of new varieties, scientific intervention for increasing the yield of local varieties, need-based training and awareness programmes on seed production technologies were among the various recommendations placed in the meeting.
Along with the members of the SAC that comprised the In-charge Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Dirang, DDI, ADO, DVO, Principal, ITI, Dirang and CPDO among others, a number of small and progressive farmers of the district also attended the meeting. DIPRO
