Aalo, Apr 11: Steady supply of green vegetables is continuing unabated here in the township in a phased manner involving cluster of villages due to the continuous efforts of the Agriculture Production and Marketing Committee, West Siang.
District Agriculture Officer Margi Ete assisted by his team of officers comprising the ADOs Nyage Loya, Jarny Yomcha, Yompe Ado and Jumdo Jini are working from the ground to ensure collection of the produce from fields and delivery to the sectors and colonies. On Saturday morning the team also delivered sacks of local vegetables to the DMO and SP for use by their families.
Usually, vegetable growers depend on daily Tata Sumo, STS buses to carry their produce involving expenditure and many are even compelled to take back the unsold products or give them at throw-away prices. But this time they are having the privilege of selling their produce sitting at home at negotiated prices to the district APMC. With 100% sale, the progressive and self-reliant fish farmers, vegetable growers and hard working womenfolk of the district are earning more and many villages, responding to APMC’s call are queuing up to ensure uninterrupted supply up to April 30.
The town dwellers, over the next few days will be having a rich taste of local vegetables that have sustained the tribal community since time immemorial and for the children of today, it is altogether a new culinary experience.
The citizens of Aalo and the district’s farmers are indebted to the dedicated team of officers from APMC for their relentless services as cohesive unit during this hour of crisis. DIPRO
